Hi Vis Overalls can made from a few different materials. The most common is cotton drill, this is cost effective and hard wearing. Polyester cotton hi-vis overalls are an option and would be recommended when dealing with liquid/oils. Cotton is preferred when dealing with heat, since polyester will not resist heat as well as cotton, better still would be some of the flame retardant overalls which are featured in this section as well.
Hi Vis Overalls should meet Australian Standard 4602.1:2011. Class D is for daytime use, overalls WITHOUT reflective tape are considered day use overalls. Class N is for day and night use and includes reflective tape.
Care should be taken with old Hi Vis Cotton Overalls. Unfortunately, cotton products fade with time, and with Hi Vis garments this means they no longer meet the Australian Standard. Fade tests are available and Hard Yakka is starting to feature a fade test on each hi vis cotton product. In short though if the colour is washed out, its time to buy a new one!
